i'm blogging at work... ahah.

this is gonna be one of those rambling posts of nothing much in particular. U know this is perhaps my calling, to be a writer who comes up something from absolutely nothing. My fave thing to say is that, we writers, (ahem yar, why cannot is it?) start from a blank slate and create a story from nothingness. Then again, this might also be called, NOTHING BETTER TO DO.

ernie and i went for the screening of The Wild last night, as i managed to score some free tix and no one wanted to watch it anyway. we met at GV Marina and got throught the show in one piece amidst shouting kids and laughing hyenas. Those hyenas drove me crazy. They were not laughing, they were GUFFAWING away like they have never watched a cartoon before, and mind you, they were ADULTS! Their "haaaahaaahaaas" were damn loud lar! I mean, certain parts were funny, but not THAT funny till the whole cinema could hear you. We get your point, you're tickled.

anyway, the show wasn't too bad, jokes were ok, plot was recycled from madagascar and it is super short, like 1 hr 15 mins! Aiyoh if u paid $9.50 for it, you would have been suffering from heartpain... and... that's why it's called a kid's show, short attention spans... ha.

well, nothing new, except i am practicing my HK-accented English again! I need it to conquer the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui, Mongkok and Disneyland. HA. I am also inspired by the Mr Brown show where Pam Oei guest stars. DAMN FUNNY! Go check it out.

ok enough of blabbering, oh btw, those of you who are closet cheena reality programmes fans (and don't dare to admit it), go watch Superband on Monday nights. It might be one of the worst singing contests ever, cos either the sound system sucks or the bands aren't very fantastic, but still, you guys must vote for this band called JADE! They are connected to me in a 'secret' way, so if somehow, your fingers are itchy and you suffer from not-donating-to-NKF-charity-shows withdrawal symptoms, dial their number and vote for them! It's only $0.60 per vote, so don't be giam siap.

so till the next post...

Cheer Bear
You're the Care Bear cheerleader! Your spunky personality and optimisim lifts everyone's spirit. Though you want everyone to be happy, you stand your ground on issues you feel strongly about and this can bring disunity among your friends. Despite this, you are a true believer in working together.

Ooooo, i'm CHEER BEAR! How coincidental! The first care bear (after it was relaunched) that was given to me by Ernie was a Cheer Bear too! ha. Although my very first one in the 80s was a Tenderheart Bear...

So which Care Bear are you??

Song of the Day ... really reflects what i am feeling now...
Love this song... especially the line "I'm short but i'm healthy" Ha.

Hand In My Pocket- Alanis Morissette
I´m broke but I´m happy
I´m poor but I´m kind
I´m short but I´m healthy, yeah
I´m high but I´m grounded
I´m sane but I´m overwhelmed
I´m lost but I´m hopeful baby

What it all comes down to
Is that everything´s gonna be fine fine fine
I´ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five

I feel drunk but I´m sober
I´m young and I´m underpaid
I´m tired but I´m working, yeah
I care but I´m restless
I´m here but I´m really gone
I´m wrong and I´m sorry baby

what it all comes down to
Is that everything´s gonna be quite alright
I´ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flicking a cigarette
What it all comes down to
Is that I haven´t got it all figured out just yet
I´ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other is giving the peace sign

I´m free but I´m focused
I´m green but I´m wise
I´m hard but I´m friendly baby
I´m sad but I´m laughin
I´m brave but I´m chicken shit
I´m sick but I´m pretty baby

What it all boils down to
Is that no one´s really got it figured out just yet
I´ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other is playing the piano
What it all comes down to my friends
Is that everything is just fine fine fine
I´ve got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is hailing a taxi cab . . .

About Alcatraz, Clam chowder and Pixar...

I had tons of fun on this trip to San Fran, just being on my own, taking in the sights and sounds of this lovely city. Will break it up into various highlights of my trip for ease of reading...

Weather: the temp was btw 10-15 deg and it was cool until the wind started blowing, leaving my face frozen. thank god for LAYERING, the thing that saved my life. had to buy gloves from Walgreens so tat my fingers will not suffer from frostbite and fall off.

Outside a beautiful church on one of my 'exploration' days

The amazing view from my room at the W hotel

Work: had a great time meeting the rest of the International Press, and had much laughs over dinner and wine. Met all sorts of people, with all sorts of different accents. It was great.

Pixar: the key to why i am even in SF. i am one of the lucky priviledged few who got to visit the Pixar Animation Studios, the place where we found Nemo, where Monsters roamed and the Toys came out to play. It was beeeeautiful. We were all bowled over by the amazing amenities and just the overall grandeur of the place. We wanted to stay to work there. It was an eye-opener indeed.

Pixar Animation Studios. Oh yeah...

Me and Dash!

p/s: did you know that Pixar has a free flow cereal bar for their employees! it has like at least 25 different kinds of cereals! how cool is that!

Fine Dining: one thing good about the trip was being able to enjoy life at another company's expense. ha. i was treated like a queen for the first part of the trip. the great accommodation at the W hotel, the amazing meals we had which includes 4 course dinners. Loved it. another thing is the endless supply of wine, and drinks that were provided, cos obviously, the ang mohs drink at anytime of the day, before dinner, during dinner, after dinner etc. Erm, then the stark contrast of lousy food sets in when i'm on my own, then it was MACS n BK to the rescue... ha.

Shopping: i stayed 2 blocks away from the heart of the shopping district, Union Square. If not for the exchange rate, i would have bought, bought and bought. I loved H&M and surprisingly Forever 21, which had 4 levels! Even Levi's had 4 levels of jeans, it was crazy! I spent a whole lot of time at these places and of course, Victoria's Secrets and just bought (and signed) away. I am officially pretty broke.

At the heart of Union Sq

The view of Union Sq (ha taken from the 7th story of MACY'S)

Alcatraz: this is the one tourist attraction that i would never regret visiting. it is so damn cool. the island had this really creepy feel to it, dreary, cold and depressing. but then, that is what made it so exciting, walking down the hallways of the ex-inmates, listening to their stories of failed escapes. it was scarily cool, just to be in the same place as man who committed heinous crimes like Scarface and the Birdman...

the ROCK

Me in cell

At Golden Gate Bridge

At the Fisherman's Wharf

Clam Chowder: imagine u're freezing ur ass off after wearing at least 4 layers, with the wind blowing constantly at ur face, and then u finally get to go indoors to a bowl of piping hot CLAM CHOWDER. it was heavenly. the chunks of potatoes, the smooth creamy soup and of course, the bread bowl... yummmmm.

simply delicious!

Last but not least, can you believe who i saw? its BRANGELINA in wax!

All in all, it was a great trip. A lil scary being alone at first, got lost for the first 10 mins of my arrival, and then finally discovered the beauty of the grid system and for some time, i could even get around without a map!

Only complaints are of lack of good cheap food and of course the fact that i hate flying. 17 hours is too damn long.

well, well, my first "overseas assignment" and hopefully more to come...

now, i'll jus look forward to HK in June! Yay!

THE PAMSTER IS BACK!

ok lar, i know i wasn't gone that long, not long enough for you guys to actually wonder, but i am back and really glad to be.

it was really fantastic to be in a foreign place, getting acquainted with a foreign someone (ie myself) whom i never really gave much thought to, and kinda neglected for a bit. It was nice to have some ME-time to ponder over stuff, to listen to myself, to talk to myself... ha it is weird, but if you've tried it, it is quite good for the soul. You get to find out what exactly in the world makes you happy.

having tried it for one whole week, i agree that its enough ME-time. I'm glad to be back and its nice to be speaking singlish again!hahaha.

i will post up pics when i am feeling less woozy from all the airplane air, yucky airplane food and i need my nice comfy bed... its home sweet home...

last but not least, its great to have someone waiting for your arrival at the airport, even when its almost midnight... and just to know that you've been missed... means a whole lot to me.

thanks

aaaaaaaaa i am blogging at the airport. hahaha.

ok i think when i am alone, i am absolutely just nuts.

just wanted to drop a note to say bye to all you people who are worried about me. don't worry i got a seat on the first leg and i even managed to convince the girl to give me another seat. I was supposed to be in the middle of 4 other people, right smack in the middle row. Got a window seat with only one person beside me, so that's pretty alright.

anyway, had a great goodbye supper and i just know i am gonna miss char siew rice already... i dunno why...

Byyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....

Love, Pam
